#v = 5# and #v = -9#

Solution:

#-10|v + 2| = -70#

#=> |v + 2| =7#

Squaring both sides we have,

# (v + 2)^2 =7^2#

# (v + 2)^2 - 7^2 = 0#

#=> (v + 2 -7)(v + 2 + 7) = 0#

#=> v + 2 - 7 = 0 => v = 5#

# v + 2 + 7 = 0 => v = -9#
