In order to find the mass of an object, you would use a laboratory balance. There are several types, and your teacher will show you how to use the type that is available to you. Generally they measure mass in grams.

In order to find the volume of an object, there are several options. If the object has a regular geometric shape, such as a cube, cylinder, or cuboid (like a book or building block), you could use the formula for volume for that particular shape. If the object is a sphere or has an irregular shape, such as a rock, you can use the water displacement method to find the volume. The following video demonstrates this technique.
